Service Learning
Currently, The Homestead is a 100% volunteer-based organization. Community support and service are at the core of what sustains the organization and the land. But beyond that - service is the core of what makes a community an interconnected working unit. Service brings people together and helps our volunteers realize that it is service itself - an indefinable connection in some ways - that gives us an understanding of what a community is and what it takes to be a part of one. Providing this service is an integral part of what makes the Homestead uniquely meaningful to its volunteers. We work with youth and adult probation services, schools, and the community to provide meaningful service opportunities. Through these opportunities we are able to transfer job skills, mentorship, and resume building.
